Security Operations Manager

Location: Remote - East Coast Preferred | Full-Time | Healthcare Sector

Compensation: 160k - 175K USD


Our client, a leading healthcare organization with a strong academic affiliation, is seeking a highly experienced SOC Manager to join their enterprise security leadership team.


The Role


Reporting directly to the Director of Information Security, the Manager will be responsible for leading and developing a growing security operations function, ensuring that enterprise information assets remain secure, compliant, and aligned with industry best practices. The position has supervisory responsibility for a team of up to 15 security professionals and will manage both in-house resources and external partners.


This individual will play a critical role in shaping the organization’s information security strategy, driving operational excellence, and maintaining resilience against evolving threats. The role covers a wide range of security domains, including:


  • Security Operations Center (SOC):

    SIEM alerting/detection, log management, phishing defence, forensics, penetration testing, and automation.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure Security:

    Azure, AWS, and on-premises environments, including zero-trust architecture.

  • Governance & Risk:

    Aligning with HIPAA, NIST CSF, and other regulatory frameworks; ensuring readiness for audits.

  • Leadership:

    Developing staff, fostering cross-training, and driving continuous improvement in security posture.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and mentor a team of information security professionals, ensuring high standards of performance and career development.

  • Oversee incident response, threat detection, and SOC operations.

  • Develop and maintain enterprise security policies, standards, and guidelines.

  • Partner with executive leadership, compliance, audit, legal, and IT to align security with business objectives.

  • Manage third-party vendors and contracts to ensure performance and value.

  • Deliver executive-level reporting on security metrics, risks, and program success.

  • Drive continuous improvement of security programs in alignment with HIPAA and NIST CSF.

  • Develop and manage the security budget.

  • Participate in enterprise-wide initiatives, steering committees, and audits.


Candidate Profile


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Management, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA/MS) preferred.

  • At least 10 years of information systems experience, including 5+ years in information security leadership.

  • Proven experience managing remote and on-site teams.

  • Advanced certifications (3 or more required): CISSP, CISM, CRISC, GIAC, CCSP, Security+.

  • Strong expertise in SOC operations, incident response, cloud security (Azure/AWS), and risk management.

  • Deep understanding of HIPAA, NIST, ISO, and other security frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to present technical risk in business terms to executive and clinical leadership.

  • Excellent vendor management and contract negotiation skills.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive reporting abilities.


Additional Information


  • This role requires occasional on-call participation, including evenings and weekends, for critical incidents.

  • Supervisory responsibility for up to 15 FTEs.

  • Full-time, non-union position with a leading healthcare system.
